The Black Cat - Dark Themes For WebSites

Last updated: January 5, 2026

Introduction

The Black Cat - Dark Themes For WebSites ("the Extension") is a browser extension that applies dark themes and an optional night tint overlay to supported websites. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles information.

The developer has disclosed that the Extension does not collect or use your data. Theme preferences and settings are stored locally in your browser.

Single purpose

The Extension applies bundled dark CSS themes to websites you visit and lets you enable, disable, or exclude specific domains from theming.

All permissions and locally stored data serve only this core dark-theme functionality. The Extension does not perform unrelated tasks such as advertising, profiling, or server-side data collection.

Information the Extension stores locally

When you use the Extension, the following may be stored on your device only:

  • Extension on/off status
  • Per-site blacklist entries for domains where theming should be skipped
  • Night tint overlay settings (enabled state, warmth color, and intensity range)
  • Whether the yellow tint overlay is disabled
  • Notification title, message, and icon data queued for local display
  • Data received through approved external messages (stored in chrome.storage.local)
  • Your chosen display language code

This information is used solely to apply dark themes and extension settings. It is not uploaded to developer servers under normal operation.

Information the Extension does not collect

The Extension does not:

  • Collect names, email addresses, or account identifiers
  • Log or transmit your full browsing history to developer servers
  • Send analytics or telemetry to developer servers
  • Use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs
  • Access website account credentials or page passwords

How information is used

Any data stored by the Extension is used only for its single purpose: applying dark themes, managing site exclusions, and showing optional local notifications.

We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to this core functionality.

Data sharing and sale

We confirm the following, as required by the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies:

  • We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, except in the limited situations permitted by applicable law (for example, if compelled by a valid legal request). Under normal operation, no user data is transferred.
  • We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the operation or improvement of the Extension's core dark-theme functionality.
  • We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising.

Host access

The Extension requests host access to http and https pages so it can inject bundled dark-theme CSS on sites you visit.

You can add individual domains to a local blacklist so theming is not applied on those sites.

Permissions explained

  • storage - Save theme on/off state, site blacklist, night overlay settings, and other preferences locally on your device
  • alarms - Schedule periodic checks for locally queued notification content
  • notifications - Display optional browser notifications using content stored locally in the Extension

Third-party connections

The Extension may connect to the following third-party services in limited ways:

  • fun-addons.com - Listed under externally_connectable; may send approved messages that write data to local storage only
  • addonup.com - On first install, the Extension may open a review page; on uninstall, Chrome may open an addonup.com feedback URL

These connections do not grant third parties ongoing access to your browsing history. Data received from approved external messages is stored locally and is not uploaded to developer servers under normal operation.

Remote code

The Extension does not use remote code. All executable code and theme CSS files are included in the Extension package and are not loaded from external sources at runtime.

Data retention and deletion

  • Theme and settings data remains on your device until you change it, reset the Extension, or uninstall it.
  • Uninstalling the Extension removes locally stored extension data from your browser.

Children's privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
