Tab Time Tracker
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Introduction
Tab Time Tracker ("the Extension") is a browser extension that measures how much time you spend on each browser tab. This Privacy Policy describes how the Extension handles information when you use it in Google Chrome.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The Extension is designed to keep all data on your device and not collect or transmit personal information to our servers.
Information the Extension collects
The Extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Tab URLs and page titles - to identify which pages you visit and for how long
- Domain names - extracted from tab URLs for aggregated statistics
- Time spent - duration tracked per tab, domain, and URL
- Session records - start/end timestamps and duration for each browsing session
- Favicon URLs - displayed in the statistics and popup interface
- User settings - excluded domains, idle threshold, privacy mode, badge preferences, and reset-on-reload option
If you enable Privacy Mode in settings, the Extension stores domain names only and does not retain full URLs.
How information is used
All collected information is used solely to provide the Extension's core functionality:
- Displaying a live timer on the active tab
- Showing elapsed time on the extension icon badge
- Building statistics (top domains, top URLs, session history)
- Applying your settings (exclusions, idle pause, privacy mode)
- Exporting your data to CSV when you request it
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to tab time tracking.
Data storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. Data is not uploaded to, synced with, or accessible by any external server operated by us or any third party.
The Extension does not require an internet connection to track time or display statistics.
Privacy mode
When Privacy Mode is enabled, the Extension records domain-level statistics only and does not store full page URLs. You can enable or disable this option at any time in the Extension settings.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, share, or transfer your browsing data to any third party. The Extension does not include analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or third-party tracking tools.
Data retention and deletion
- Tracking data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the Extension.
- You can delete all tracked data at any time using the "Clear All" option in the Extension settings.
- Uninstalling the Extension removes all data stored by the Extension from your browser.
Permissions
- storage - to save tracking data and settings locally on your device
- tabs - to detect the active tab and respond to tab changes for time tracking
- idle - to detect user inactivity and pause tracking when you are away
These permissions are used only as described in this policy and are necessary for the Extension to function.
Remote code
The Extension does not use remote code. All executable code is included in the Extension package and is not loaded from external sources at runtime.
Children's privacy
Tab Time Tracker is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
