New tab - Social Page
Last updated: July 9, 2026
Introduction
New tab - Social Page ("the Extension") is a browser extension that replaces Chrome's new tab page with a start page featuring Google search and shortcuts to popular websites. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles information.
The Extension is designed to keep your settings on your device. It does not require an account and does not include analytics or advertising SDKs.
Single purpose
The Extension provides a customizable new tab start page with search and website shortcuts.
All permissions and locally stored data serve only this core functionality.
Information the Extension stores locally
When you use the Extension, the following may be stored on your device only:
- Your enabled and disabled shortcut list, including custom sites you add
- Shortcut order, titles, URLs, and icon paths
- Display preferences such as card size and whether titles are shown
- Search placeholder text and your last entered search query
- Whether links should open in a new tab
- Initialization and last-visit timestamps used for local settings management
This information is used solely to render your new tab page and is not uploaded to developer servers.
Information the Extension does not collect
The Extension does not:
- Collect names, email addresses, or account identifiers
- Log your browsing history to developer servers
- Send analytics or telemetry to developer servers
- Use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs
- Require sign-in or cloud sync
How information is used
Any data stored by the Extension is used only to display your new tab page, remember your shortcut layout, and apply your display settings.
We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to this core functionality.
Third-party services
The new tab page may load or link to third-party services when you use it:
- Google Search - submitting the search form sends your query to google.com in a new tab
- Google Fonts - Roboto font files are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com for page styling
- Google Favicon Service - when you add a custom shortcut, the settings page may request a favicon from google.com/s2/favicons to preview the site icon
- Shortcut destinations - clicking a shortcut opens the website you chose (for example youtube.com, github.com, or a custom URL)
These requests are initiated by your use of the start page or settings UI. The Extension does not send your locally stored settings to those services.
Data sharing and sale
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Permissions explained
- storage - Save shortcut lists, display settings, and preferences locally on your device
Remote code
The Extension does not use remote code. All executable code is included in the Extension package.
The new tab page loads Google Fonts stylesheets from Google servers for typography. Shortcut icons bundled with the Extension are served locally; custom shortcut previews may use Google's public favicon service.
Data retention and deletion
- Settings remain on your device until you change them, reset the Extension, or uninstall it.
- You can restore default shortcuts and settings from the Extension options page.
- Uninstalling the Extension removes locally stored extension data from your browser.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
