AdBlock for YouTube™
Last updated: July 16, 2026
What is AdBlock for YouTube™?
AdBlock for YouTube™ (also referred to as Video Ad Shield in product messaging) is a Chrome extension that helps you block video ads, banners, overlays, and related interruptions on streaming pages so you can watch with fewer distractions.
Single purpose
This Extension provides a single, focused purpose: block video ads on streaming pages.
Permissions are limited to what that purpose requires: saving enablement and counters, injecting cleanup scripts, finding open streaming tabs, blocking advertising network requests, and matching video-site ads and trackers.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how AdBlock for YouTube™ ("the Extension") handles information.
The Extension is not affiliated with Google or YouTube. It does not require your Google account password and does not sell browsing data for advertising.
Data stored on your device
When you use the Extension, chrome.storage may keep:
- Whether protection is enabled or disabled
- An ad counter used to show how many ads were handled
This data stays on your device. The Extension does not upload your watch history to a developer-operated backend for this product purpose.
Information the Extension does not collect
The Extension does not:
- Sell or transfer user data to third parties outside approved use cases
- Use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to blocking video ads on streaming pages
- Use user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes
- Ship remote executable code outside the Extension package
Permissions explained
- storage - Save enabled state and ad counter
- scripting - Inject cleanup scripts into video pages
- tabs - Find open streaming tabs after install
- declarativeNetRequest - Block advertising network requests by rules
- Host permission - Match video site ads and trackers so cleanup and blocking can run on streaming pages
Host access
Host permission is used to match ads and trackers on video/streaming pages where protection needs to run.
The Extension focuses on that single purpose rather than collecting unrelated browsing data for sale.
Data sharing and sale
We confirm the following, as required by the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, except in the limited situations permitted by applicable law.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the operation or improvement of the Extension's core ad-blocking functionality.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Remote code
The Extension does not use remote code. All executable code is included in the Extension package and is not loaded from external sources at runtime.
Data retention and deletion
- Local enabled state and ad counter remain on your device until you change them, clear extension data, or uninstall the Extension.
- Uninstalling the Extension removes its stored preferences from your browser profile as Chrome allows.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Trademark notice
YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC. AdBlock for YouTube™ is an independent extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google or YouTube.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
